The Norden Mk. XV, referred to as the Norden M series in U.S. Army service, served as a bombsight utilized by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and the United States Navy in World War II. Additionally, the United States Air Force employed it during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Distinguishing itself through an early tachometric design, the Norden Mk. XV directly measured the aircraft's ground speed and direction, a notable advancement over older bombsights that relied on time-consuming manual procedures for estimation. This innovation was complemented by the inclusion of an analog computer within the Norden, continuously recalculating the bomb's impact point based on dynamic flight conditions. Moreover, the bombsight featured an autopilot that exhibited rapid and precise responses to changes in factors such as wind or other atmospheric effects, further enhancing its operational efficiency.
